The Soviet Union ended the Warsaw Pact. Michael Gorbachev said the Cold War was over, that there was and should be a common European home stretching from Rotterdam to Vladivostok. There was no reason for the Warsaw Pact, NATO's Soviet counterpart, to continue to exist, and NATO should have been disbanded at that point.

What history do we know? Perhaps only that which we were taught in school through textbooks written according to immutable didactic criteria. That is, an exclusively (or absolutely predominantly) European history.

The world is in a very dramatic situation with remarkable geopolitical changes that are underway.  What's happening is that a familiar world is no longer led by the United States and Europe. It is the end of an era: that of Western domination of the world system, a domination that began with the European empires and then passed to the US empire after the Second World War.
