Foreword
In contempt of International Law and based on false accusations, with the attack on the nuclear sites of a Sovereign State, Trump denies its isolationist doctrine "MAGA", the electoral promise to replace weapons with diplomacy and the speech on 16 May in Riyadh against the deadly "neocon doctrine" that destroyed and bloodied the world. His voters are once again victims of the war party and of the Israeli lobby that survive every president in the deep state.
It is not known whether this act of terrorism will remain isolated or if it is the prelude to a new Afghanistan or Iraq. It is not known what the US bombers actually destroyed (certainly the Iranian nuclear program has not been eliminated, as instead Trump claims, thus delegitimizing any new Israeli raid).
The fact is that this clear violation of international law authorizes Moscow ex post to do what it did in Ukraine and, in perspective, China to incorporate Taiwan.
Europe should condemn the American and Israeli acts of terrorism: finding the words is not difficult. Just copy any statement from the last three years against Putin, replacing his name with that of Netanyahu and Trump. But Europe will never do it.
Current situation
The bombastic phrases of NATO and EU leaders on 24.2.2022 about Russia's aggression against Ukraine are touching, compared to their babbling and stammering about Israel & USA's aggression against Iran. And the fact that Iran does not have nuclear weapons to threaten Israel (which has had them for almost half a century), adds a touch of surrealism to the famous "values" of the West.
Meanwhile, Von der Leyen asks not the aggressors Israel and the US, but the attacked Iran, to “stop” and “engage in a credible diplomatic solution” because “the negotiating table is the only place to end this crisis”: the table where the Iranians were regularly seated, in Oman and Geneva, when first Netanyahu and then Trump blew it up with bombs.
All the other Europeans agree in silence. No one condemns the violation of international law and/or proposes sanctions (the only one sanctioned is Iran, since 1979), much less sending weapons and aid to Tehran. The mantra “aggressor and aggressed”, repeated endlessly for Russia and Ukraine, has evaporated.
A special mention for the fake anti-Trumpians who until the day when Trump was calling for and organizing negotiations on Ukraine and the Middle East, were stoning him as a traitor to the West: now that he has bombed the negotiations, everyone is more Trumpian than him. He orders Europeans to throw 5% of GDP into weapons? Yes, Sir!.
Iran, Israel and US
Air power and naval power alone cannot cause the unconditional surrender of a country as vast and mountainous and well-resourced as Iran, 80 times the size of Israel. A mix of arrogance and self-delusion is shaping US policymakers along with the power and the influence of the Israel lobby as well as the industrial sector that supports its military. Netanyahu has been telling for the last 25 years that Iran is within weeks of a nuclear weapon. So, his lobbying has been successful.
The bad news is that the Israelis now have a US president that did what they wanted and a Senate and a House that are very obedient.
The Global South is lining up against Israel and US while Russia and China are thinking what to do. And how about the Muslin nations across the world?
The only winners are those that are making money out of the war. There is no strategy asking critical questions. What's the purpose of all that? The use of military power will achieve the desired goal? What is the end state? Only impulse and emotion are to be seen.
People seem to think there is no danger and US will sail through unscathed on the assumption that, by bombing, the presumed enemy will fall apart, get on his knees, beg forgiveness.
So far war for the average American is something that happens on someone else's soil. This time is having a human, economic and financial impact. Non to mention the possibility of terrorism inside the US. How to protect a wide country with 330 million people?
And what if Tel Aviv is heavily attacked, Israelis are killed or wounded, their economy is in bad shape, their air defense is weakened and the US cannot resupply them with everything they need? Will the US beat the Iranians into submission by destroying all their military facilities and/or by regime changing? By successfully killing, murdering or destroying all the people at the top of the organization? That is not going to work. What are Russia, China and others going to do? Russia and China could say: “If I do not go to the aid of Iran, am I not actually the next on the list? What's the incentive to stay out?”
The real goal is to destroy Iran
Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and does not have that weapon. Less than two months ago Trump's Director for National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, confirmed the US intelligence's assessment that Iran's leadership put an end to an embryonic nuclear weapon programme in 2003 and has since never taken the decision to build the bomb. US intelligence believes that, should that decision come, Iran would need up to three years to get the bomb.
But it is really irrelevant at this point. The real goal is to destroy Iran as a large nation state, to weaken it and then to replace its government.
Russia when first entered Ukraine did so because the Russian citizens in Ukraine were being treated very badly as second class citizens. And in many cases killed, murdered. Putin had tried through the Minsk Accords to come to an arrangement but he soon realized that they were a fraud (Merkel admitted that the Accords were simply offered to buy time for Ukraine to build up their military capability) so as to transform Ukraine into a kind of military battering ram to be used against Russia for destroying the Russian state. That in the interest of US and Europe so that Russia could be carved up into pieces.
The western financial world has been very frustrated believing that Putin could be removed from power and a weak Russia could be bullied and ultimately fell apart so it could move in and strip Russia of its natural resources and abuse its people as it saw fit. Well, that has failed. But the same mentality has now moved into the Middle East. And after pushing for the war in Ukraine, many of the same people are now pushing very hard for Israel's bid for regional hegemony against Iran with the same goal.
Israel wants hegemony in the Middle East
This war is not about Israel and nuclear weapons in Iran: it is misleading as, already stressed, Iran does not have nuclear weapons. In Middle East the US are harnessing their military power and great economic strength to Israel that wants hegemony in the region. And backing this hegemony in the ME will be good for US. Iran disposes over enormous resources. Oil and gas being the biggest.
Russia, China, India, Pakistan know that this is the real agenda: to move in, take over, rip apart Iran, divide it up, make it a sort of pliable, vassal state of greater Israel.
Look at the people that control everything: the financial power. That the oligarchs wield inside the US and Western Europe. How many senators does Trump control? If he puts forth a proposal how many in the Senate will vote for that proposal? How many in the Senate right now does Netanyahu command and control? He has more power and influence in the Senate and in the House of Representatives than Trump does. And a great deal of that influence reaches into the military. The Commander of Central Command (its Area of Responsibility includes the Middle East, Central Asia and parts of South Asia) , General Michael Kurilla, is enthusiastic beyond description to go to war with Iran and spends most of his time with Netanyahu in Israel. It is impossible to separate what happened from financial power.
So, having lost with Putin, they have turned their attention to the ME and want to do to Iran what they were unable to do to Russia.
Israel is leading that charge, is in vanguard. US have decided to bankroll and support Israel in its bid for regional hegemony because they see themselves benefiting financially and strategically from the destruction of Iran.
The US attack on the Iranian nuclear sites
The US attack on the Iranian nuclear sites of Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, decided by Trump under pressure from Netanyahu, marks a dangerous step towards escalation in the Middle East: a move orchestrated by the American “Deep State” and the “Zionist lobby”, which risks dragging the world into a nuclear conflict. Far from peace, this blitz reflects the fallacy of the US and Israel in believing they can impose their will in the region. Iran will not accept US demands to abandon its nuclear program, as Trump and Defense Secretary Hegseth hope, calling the attack “one-off”. History teaches that similar actions lead to escalation, not to diplomatic solutions. The US, despite its military power, cannot control the Middle East: from Libya to Iran, together with Israel, they have only created “deserts” passed off as peace (“Ubi solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant”: Tacitus). Now Trump, ignoring Europeans, calls for de-escalation and shows contempt for a Europe seen as subservient to the US.
There is no coherence of Trump’s narrative on Iran, but instead the hand of the Deep State and the Zionist lobby. The idea that Trump has fought the “system” appears illusory: his attack is in line with US policies as always. Russia, wary of Washington, strengthens the BRICS and supports Iran, opposing US hegemony. This attack reinforces the anti-NATO axis. The US blitz is not a victory, but a step towards a regional disaster that no one controls, led by those who support American power.
What is the purpose of the mantra “aggressor and aggressed”?
So there two aggressors, Israel and the US, and four aggressed: Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Iran. Then there are those who applaud the aggressors, those who pretend to stammer from the height of their insignificance (much of Europe), those who even claim responsibility (German Chancellor Merz: “Israel is doing the dirty work for us”).
The aggression includes the annihilation of an entire people (the final solution of the Palestinians in the Gaza extermination camp), the violent colonization of the same people in another area (the West Bank), the bombing attack of a non-aligned country, already sitting at the negotiating table (Iran). This time, no false evidence brandished at the UN (Colin Powell and the fake anthrax, with Iraq), no small-man nonsense (Tony Blair who had found the evidence "on the internet", always Iraq): just the word of a criminal (Netanyahu) and the bombs of his partner (Trump). In short, the Empire no longer needs excuses to annihilate those who oppose its plans, it just does it.
In almost two years the bar rises every day. Israel has destroyed 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip. It has murdered almost 60,000 civilians, including 20,000 children, it has used and uses hunger and thirst as weapons of war, it has blocked the delivery of medicines, it has lied relentlessly. Which means that from now on anyone who does all these horrible things will be able to say that they have already been done, that they have gone unpunished, that they have been approved by complementary philosophers, thinkers, politicians, “liberal” intellectuals, complacent media, and others.
The aggressors can boast of the qualification of “democracies”, and this seems to make any contempt for humanity acceptable. Even if then, when seeing them up close, these democracies are a bit disgusting, among those who practice apartheid, those who deport immigrants, and those who say that a genocide is “dirty work” done “for us”.
But the show must go on, the show must continue, a synthesis of the postmodern, post-strategic, post-legal, post-rational and post-moral world in which we now live. Let's sit better on the sofa to listen to the new talking crickets. The show continues while death advances and with it the oblivion of the victims.
The American attack, following the Israeli one, against a country that is a signatory to the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty , whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons) subject to IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) controls and open to negotiations, repeats the tactics of the American deep state, reflects its unipolar arrogance, its support for wars of imperial expansion that do not distinguish, except in form, the Democrats from the Republicans.
How can European citizens not consider enemies those who allow all this: the sappy editorialists, the journalists who "don't want trouble", the distracted, the indifferent? It will be a long, endless, exhausting fight for dignity. A political fight, but above all a human one.
What should the US do?
Luckily a ceasefire, brokered by Trump, has been achieved. It is not known how long it will last. A global solution is badly needed to try and get a balance of power and some sense of sanity back into what is going on. If the ceasefire is broken, this nonsense with Iran could end badly for the US and the West.
US has to change how they do business with the rest of the world as well as what they are doing inside their country. US should halt any more aid to the Israelis until they stop murdering people in Gaza and in the West Bank.
Then US should have a look at troops from non-aligned countries to come in and secure Gaza. Trump should convene a great power conference involving US, Russia, China, India and Brazil. Brazil is not a great military power but is a huge country, has tremendous economic resources and it would give Latin America a say and a stake in the international arena.
US are currently held by people wanting hegemony for themselves. They do not understand that military hegemony on a global scale is bankrupting. It is disastrous financially.
The British left India in 1948 because the debt to GDP ratio was 240%. They could not afford to stay. That is going to happen to the US; it would have been better had US behaved with some degree of foresight and wisdom and recognize the limit of their power and interests.
Too many Americans do not pay attention to politics. They live in a big country where people are busy trying to put food on the table, earn a living, and see the latest football game. That is changing now because of the unrest in Seattle, Los Angeles and other major cities. The assumption is that US can drown those fires with mountains of cash. That is not an option. US cannot just print any more.
The shaky truce between Iran and Israel appears to hold for the time being, with both sides saying they would honour the ceasefire if the other side did the same. But, should the ceasefire be broken, will there be an Armageddon-like end because of this insanity in Iran? The greatest fear is that when the Israelis realize that this is a dead end, they will threaten the use of a nuclear weapon. And if they use one, someone else somewhere will provide a nuclear weapon for use against them and that will be the end of it.
